Our Teachers
Christina Santa Maria
Christina Santa Maria, mezzo-soprano, was raised in Brooklyn, NY and lives in Buffalo, NY with her husband Evan Flury.
She earned a Master of Music degree in Voice Pedagogy and Performance (Pedagogy Emphasis) from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ and graduated Summa Cum Laude from SUNY Binghamton University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance with a minor in Linguistics. She is a dedicated music educator with over 5 years of classroom experience and a decade of private teaching and conducting experience.
Christina is one of the only singing voice specialists in the Buffalo area, offering voice lessons focused on habilitation, the core principle of Vocology – the science of vocalization. She holds a Certificate in Vocology from NYU, where her studies focused on Voice Disorders, Vocal Habilitation & Training, and Voice Science. She acts as the third leg of the voice care team alongside ENTs and SLPs. Christina has helped many injured voices regain strength and confidence through evidence-based pedagogy.
As a member of the Buffalo music community she currently serves as the Director of Music at Trinity Church Grand Island where she leads the Choir, Orchestra, and Praise Band for weekly services. She served as an Alto Staff Singer for the Grammy-Award winning Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus in the ‘23-’24 season and performs in local productions on a freelance basis.
Operatic performances include full roles and scenes as Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Dorabella (Cosi fan tutte), Charlotte (Werther), Meg Page (Falstaff), Hansel (Hansel and Gretel) and Zerlina (Don Giovanni). She performed with Tri-Cities Opera as a member of the opera chorus and sang the lead role of Billie in their production of Speed Dating Tonight!, a one-act comic opera commissioned by the Janiec Opera of the Brevard Music Center.
As a professional youth and collegiate chorister, she has performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Marin Alsop at Carnegie Hall, with the New York Philharmonic and Lorin Maazel at Avery Fisher Hall, and most recently with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the Kimmel Center. As a member of the Grammy-Award winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus, she has sung back-up vocals for world renowned artists Elton John, Aretha Franklin, John Legend, Natasha Bedingfield, Lou Reed, and Barbra Streisand. With her early training under Jeanie LoVetri, the founder of Somatic Voicework, she has developed the unique ability to sing and teach across various genres in a healthy sustainable manner.
Evan Flury, Associate Teacher
Evan Flury specializes in Acoustic & Electric guitar and Electric Bass. He holds a Bachelor of Music, with concentration in Music History and Composition and a Bachelor of Arts in History from SUNY Binghamton University. Evan brings over 15 years of experience playing in bands, orchestras and composing his own music. Emily Prokhorenko, Associate Teacher
Emily Prokhorenko is a classically trained pianist with a strong foundation in music theory and performance. She began her collegiate studies in music at SUNY Fredonia before earning her Bachelor’s degree in English Education (7–12) from Niagara University and a Master’s degree in TESOL from SUNY Fredonia. In addition to her extensive classical training, Emily brings over 20 years of teaching experience with Buffalo Public Schools, where she has developed a deep understanding of how students learn and grow. She is committed to helping piano students build strong technical skills, musical literacy, and confidence at the keyboard. With her unique background in both music and education, she knows how to shape each lesson around the way every student learns best—keeping things structured, but always creative, fun and inspiring.
